League Of Legends EU:The Recap: Europe Week 6

The Recap: Europe Week 6

Europe was a bit crazy this week, with only two teams - Millenium and Copenhagen Wolves - managing to pull off a 2-0 week. The rest of the pack showed varying degrees of inconsistency, most going 1-1 over the two days. Only Fnatic lost both of their games, continuing their seven game slide.

Games of the Week

Day 1: Millenium vs. Copenhagen Wolves

The first match of the week was a long one, and that’s just the way Copenhagen Wolves likes it. Through 40 minutes, the game remained remarkably even, with CW only getting a slight gold lead over their opponents. But as Forg1ven began to get his Lucian a huge amount of farm (658 CS to be exact), helped along by Unlimited’s impeccable Leona play, the Wolves began to pull ahead. When CW managed to pick up a Baron buff, they took advantage of their sieging potential, pushing down tower after tower, and took the win.

Day 1: Gambit Gaming vs. ROCCAT

Gambit wasn’t going to have it easy against the red hot ROCCAT, regardless of who was playing for the team. But, with four substitutes taking over the roster due to visa problems, things took a turn for the worst. They had difficulty communicating, giving up a slew of kills as a result of poor calls and not backing each other up, the sort of mistakes you can’t make against a world-class team like ROCCAT. Overpow and Celaver took immediate advantage with their Ziggs and Lucian, grabbing a combine 12 of ROCCAT’s 13 kills, and securing the victory over a shaky Gambit.

Day 2: Gambit Gaming vs. Supa Hot Crew

However, the loss against ROCCAT didn't mean that the Gambit substitutes couldn't be incredibly dangerous. Unfortunately for SHC, they happened to get in the way of the out-for-blood Gambit. Nukeduck and his mid lane Lulu wandered around the map side-by-side with Hulberto’s Olaf, slowing with both Glitterlance and Undertow to set up several early kills. After grabbing a mid-game lead, no one could escape the pair, and Gambit picked off anyone they found even slightly out of position. Moopz’s Kayle and MrRalleZ's Jinx were never able to get to their potential late game strength, and never had the opportunity to come back. Gambit’s substitutes went 1-1 in Week 6, an undeniable victory for the organization.

Big Players of the Week

Forg1ven

In Copenhagen Wolves’ two victories this week, Forg1ven didn't die a single time, and racked up 12 kills. And you know what? That’s not even his most impressive statistic this week. Against Millenium, he put up an absolutely massive 658 CS, the most in LCS history. With how strong he’s looking in the bottom lane, it’s unsurprising that the Wolves won both games this week.

Amazing

Coming from the jungle, Amazing’s name fits the way he played Lee Sin in both of CW’s matches this week. The selfless jungler did work early, getting his teammates a ton of early kills and picking up 18 assists for himself. Teams couldn't keep away from him as he dove around the map, punching and kicking everyone in his path.

EDward

Statistically, Gambit's support player didn't have a spectacular week. He died a total of eight times across two games, only picking up six assists and two kills. However, things could have gone significantly worse, considering he was playing with four substitutes that he’d never played with on the professional level. The victory against Supa Hot Crew is a testament to his ability to make good calls and keep his team in the game.

Surprise of the Week

Gambit playing with four subs - and winning

Thanks to visas expiring, EDward was the only regular member of Gambit able to play in Cologne this week. Gambit had to bring in four substitutes: Zorozero in the top lane, Hulberto in the jungle, Nukeduck in the mid lane, and fury III taking the role of ADC. As expected, hey looked sloppy in their first game against ROCCAT, but once they settled down, they managed to beat up on Supa Hot Crew.

The battle for third place heats up

With ROCCAT and Gambit sitting in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots in the standings, there’s a three-way tie for third after six weeks of EU LCS play. SK Gaming, Supa Hot Crew, and the sliding Fnatic all sit at 7-7, mirroring the gridlock around the top slot two weeks ago.

Disappointment of the Week

xPeke and Fnatic sit at .500

We called Fnatic our disappointment last week, but it’s hard to not put them in the same category this week, as they lost their seventh game in a row to bring their record to 7-7. Even xPeke, who looked to be his team’s beacon of hope last week, struggled heavily against both Supa Hot Crew and Copenhagen Wolves, going 0/6/0 against the latter. Something is going to have to change for Fnatic, and soon.
